You should inspect the main bearings, would be a waste of time to do it otherwise. Also measure the crank journals and check the surface for any groves.

Since the sound is not there when the engine is cold or when it's IDLE, I'd try my luck with a thicker w40 oil. Do you think it's a sensible idea or I might as well get the oil pan down and check for play at the rod bearings?

I wouldn't try and mask a knock with a thicker oil, you need to pin down what the cause of the noise is, or your just looking for trouble further down the line, get someone to check it out as it is

Its strange as i watched the first video and i was pretty sure your engine was fubar but the second video where your standing next to the engine no knock is evident.

I wouldn't drive it like that because if it is rod knock then its only a matter of time before it ejects a rod through the block. If it does that the cylinder head will be scrap as well, where as at least at the moment you could sell that second hand and get a few quid for it to go towards a replacement engine.

Get it to one of the respected S2000 mechanics and let them have a look.

Rod knock sounds louder with the more revs you give. That seemed to disappear.

Hi Gabor

Did you have any luck with this? Did replacing only the rod bearings fix it?

I've got the same issue as you. I drove it yesterday and think that has probably done more damage to the point where this fix probably wont help.

If your crankshaft or bore is scratched. Could be goners.or you do a mad rebuild with darton sleeves and that lol. Or just find a good donor engine.
