OK, so I did my first track day with the S, totally stock. And I must say how impressed I am with the stock setup. My instructor also noticed the balance of the car and remarked on it. We were also riding on Eagle GT all season tires, which are considerable worse than even the OEM rubber.

I ran with SCDA at Thompson Speedway. The track is new and a lot of fun, it seems well suited to the S2k. Its mostly tight, with a couple of faster sections and one long straight. There were some others S's there and they also did very well.

First off let me say that the whole 00-01 snap over steer thing is a myth. This thing was very predictable and stable. It mostly pushed the front (or I did), but there were a couple of sections when the rear rotated around. The only times this happened was when I was trail braking late into the corner. When it did come around it was extremely easy to correct. Just unwind the steering or add throttle and it settled right back down. Actually, if you were on the throttle the whole car would squat down, and you could do almost anything! It was very predictable and fast. I always felt in control. My instructor was pushing me to go faster and faster.

Considering all the cars we passed, most people were surprised to find out it was my first track day and we were on crap rubber. I have to give most of the credit to the car and my instructor, for pushing me to go faster.

What a great day. What a great car!

Oh yeah, no issues with the top. I just left it up for tech and they did not look under the roof. No roll bar, no problem.

I just had my first ever track day at Thompson. I agree with Apex. The track was a lot of fun (although I don't have any other references). That hump before the straight was scary at first since I've never experienced something like that at such speed on the highway. The AP1 was very predictable and easy to handle for a newbie.

I too had no issue at tech inspection. I had the top up and by the time I tried to get out of the car the inspector was already trying to put the sticker on my windshield. No one tried to look inside the car.

Was your car silver like mine? There was another 04 S2k, silver as well. All the s2ks seemed to do really well.

Were you going down to 2nd on any of the corners? There were some times a broader power band would have helped...

I had my share of trouble in Turn 1 and Turn 4, partly as there is absolutely no chance to heel and toe in this car. After the weekend, I think I should run a different line in Turn 1.

I'm debating whether to bring the MGA or the S2000 to Thompson with Loose Nut later this month.

I had the 03 AP1 silver with the top up. I'm a noob so I was in novice. What group were you in? There was a yellow CR, gray 04+ and another AP1 silver in novice. There was a track prep red one in non-novice group. I didn't get a chance to walk around to spot any other.

The instructor said to stay in 3rd for all but the straight. Since it was my first time, I listened to him. I would like to try 2nd for turns 1 and 4.

A fellow on the MG site bought a racing school certificate for his son who ultimately decided not to attend. He's looking to sell for whatever he can get. Credit value at Skip Barber is $1,260.00 attending any driving/racing class at any Skip Barber school in the U.S. Sounds like it will cover one of the one day courses. Here's the link http://www.mgexp.com/phorum/read.php?41,2852917

Then, after you go to the school, you can do silly stuff like me:

Like forget to turn on the mike! So view with annotations "on".

There are plenty of 2015 dates at which you can track your stock S2000. It's a real hoot. See post 1 here for schedules. All groups except the SCCA racing are S2000 friendly.
