PCV valve

PCV valve
I failed to pay attention to my PCV valve over the last year or so and after some hard driving (two 10 minute sessions at 6-9K rpm) I started leaking oil from the crankcase pressure. Those of you without a catch can should look at the PCV valve to make sure it rattles.
Wound up with a seep at the rear main seal, a leak from the back of the oil pan (neither of which can be seen until the transmission is removed) so oil was coming out of the notch at the bottom of the bell housing, and blew a large leak from the valve cover gasket. It was a lot of work to recover for failing to replace a $4 part.
In the process I bought a Honda tool to install the real main seal (just didn't have faith with the rubber mallet technique) so if someone wants to borrow it or buy it I have it here in Vancouver.
Just sharing about a forgotten maintenance item.

Thanks for the parts offer and info Chris!
Sorry to hear about the problems though. That really sucks.
Glad to see you got it fixed up nice and quick though.

Man local dealers are pricey for a PCV valve - $32 at Beaverton, $28 at Tonkin - $14 Online.
Chris, did you replace with OEM or Oreillys / Autozone? Given what happened, I'd be skeptical of using an inferior part...

Dont forget RockAuto
$2.05 (plus freight)
I ordered a knock sensor from them (Standard Motor Products brand) and what I got was a SMP box with a Genuine Honda parts bag and a perfectly matched knock sensor inside for $50 (compared to $134 elsewhere).

Exactly, I get mine from RO. If you order one at a time the come in the mail for about 5.00 total... I don't order more than singles as it forces you into UPS making the unit cost higher.
