Will 17x8 +54 run okay with stock suspension on the track?

Since most of us think of things in terms of 17x9 square, a 17x8 +54 will come out to the fender the same as a 17x9 +67 would if that size could fit on the car. Alternatively, a 17x8 +54 will have 4mm more room on the fender side than a 17x9 +63 and 7mm more than a 17x9 +60. That's just speaking in terms of the wheel, the tire is going to be more like where a 255 would be on a 17x9 +64.
At any ride height I don't think you're safe with the fender liner tabs. The problem is on the outside wheel when you have to countersteer in a corner. The tabs are on the leading edge of the wheel arch under the assumption that whenever that side of the car is loaded up in a corner, the tire will be pointed in, away from the tab. When you countersteer you point the leading edge of the tire on the loaded side of the car right out towards the tab. Before I bent my tabs I put a nice groove in a 255 on a 17x9 +60 that was over an inch in from the shoulder of the tire. That was on stock suspension with a big front bar.
When you get really low, the fender lip at the top of the arch can catch a tire when you hit a bump with the outside wheel while the suspension is loaded up. A friend of mine learned that the hard way.

I am looking for a plug and play solution without any fender mods. I am pretty aggressive on the track, getting on and off the berm and catching some air time. Alternatively I'm also considering 17x9 +63 with 255 tires on the front, and also wondering if they will work without any trim or roll since I am still on stock suspension.
