Default Just Retired - Always loved the S2000 - Would You Still Buy One today?

Greetings -

Just retired and always loved the S2000. Not sure my body could handle it as a daily driver, so it will be an occasional car. The car I'm looking at is a base 2005 model with low mileage - under 35K, two owner car. The question is - given all of the cars available today, should I still consider the S2000 or has current technology provided "better" choices?

Just sold my 2007 and just bought my 02 a few months ago. All in all there is nothing that truly compares to the s2k. Sure you can wait it out for the new Focus RS, or get a BRZ and boost it, or maybe even a new miata. At the end of the day it takes more money to equal the fun and excitement of the S2000...even still.

Would I still buy one today? Yes. There is no convertible on the market today that I want more than an S2000 at the same/similar price point.

That might change at some point, but right now, the S is it.

This is S2000 Talk after all.

The day that I test drove an S2000 in 2005 I was hooked. It was love at first sight
Where have you been all my life gorgeous !!!!

I was 60 then and it was my daily driver till I retired 2 years ago . Now at age 70 I still drive it (not as much of course) and love every minute doing so.

So to answer your question - YES !

Definitely hard to say. I am considered young to retired people and I can't justify letting go at the moment. My brother had an S2000 years ago and ever since driving it, I have never forgotten. Now with my 07, I just enjoy it as much as I can, rattles and all. Maybe try to get some test drives from locals? Perception and reality may be different.

Absolutely. There is just nothing that brings the pure joy of driving like the S2000, at least in this price range. To me the next logical choice up the food chain is the Cayman, but we are talking a lot more money.

Sure. You may be surprised how "occasional" you drive it. Good luck.

Yep, my "summer occasional driver" has racked up 6000+ miles in the past year (bought it almost exactly a year ago). And she was in storage 5 of the past 12 months as well. I swear I only drive it on nice days in the summer! North Carolina will have more nice days than I have in Ohio.

While we all think we maintain the reactions (and sex appeal) of 25 year olds even when we're 65 it just ain't so! I opted for an '06 for fluff like stability control, etc. which is only available on the very late cars. And extreme performance summer tires for superior handling.

S2k is one of the best driving cars money can buy. Its that good. However as a transportation vehicle it is so so. the s2k has a very hyper and frenetic personality, especially AP1s. It goads you to drive it fast. It doesn't really reward cruising around.

For you, I think you are right to look at an AP2, they are slightly softer than an AP1. Drive one and see what you think. If not the S2k, try a new Miata or maybe a used Z4.
