Castrol Edge 5w-40 Titanium FST
Greetings all,
I have always used Castrol Edge 5w-40 TD as many others used to and I had previously stock piled oil when it was on offer due to changing it every 3k miles with the charger being engine oil fed.
I have none of the old version left and there is now Castrol Edge Titanium FST available in both Petrol & TD, are people still using the TD version or does it not matter?
Just thought I would check before stocking up from Euro Car Parts given that it's just over £34 for 4 litres with their current promotion.
Apologies if this has already been covered.
Cheers
Martin

Edit: Just found this offer on at 123 spare parts which works out at £5.93 per litre (including delivery) if you buy the 20 litre canister.

Is Castrol Edge 5w-40 TD rated for gasoline engines, or just diesels? Is there a different spec for engine oil in the UK (10W-30 is the spec in North America)?
What wear does your oil analysis show?

Not many have done oil wear analysis and certainly not under controlled conditions to quantify comparison between various types of oil performance.

Si did some oil analysis on MB's race car using the original Castro TD edge sport.
He give positive feedback.
I need a load of this, just need to wait for an offer so I can stock up.

James, it's £118 including delivery in this link for 20 litres which I think is a good price as I cannot find it cheaper anywhere.

1) Si works for Castrol
2) A race car doesn't go through the same patterns as a road car
3) No comparisons against other oils on a like for like testing basis
ATEOTD, Honda recommend it and they have no doubt done countless tests on it. It'll be fine

Seriously just curious here.
"Honda" recommended it? Billy at the Honda garage? Honda-who?
Honda -- as my Honda owners manual -- specifies 10W-30 (5W-40 for weather below 0°F/-20°C) and specifically notes "Make sure the API Certification Seal says ‘‘For Gasoline Engines." Hence my question if the UK cars have different specs and shold run heavy diesel rated engine oil.

Read this for an explanation of why 5w40 is widely used here: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/108...t__p__23172384
The main reason why hardly anyone uses 10w30 in the UK is that it's not widely available.
