911 vs s2000 ownership redeux
I have been debating this since I bought my 04 Suzuka Blue S2k a few years ago.
Do I want to keep the S2000 or the 87-89 911 Coupe? Lets hear from the peanut gallery.
But first some assumptions. Not having a Rag Top would not bother me. Maintenance is not a great concern, this is considered a collectable vehicle for me and I can also handle most basic to relatively advanced maintenance issues myself (excluding a major engine tear down). Since I only put a couple of thousand miles a year on the car, (although I drive it regularly on the weekends) longevity is not an issue. I HAVE driven the 911 and am generally pleased with its performance. IF I were to keep the S2000, I would go FI in the next 10 months. IF I sell the S2k, I would put the money towards a clean 911. I love my S2k and if I could keep both I would, but one will have to go...
Lets here what YOU would do...

The older I get, the more I want a 911. Never been a fan and I don't know the differece between any of them, they all look the same to me, but lately I have been liking them. Collectabilty won't happen for any normal 911 that has been driven for more than a 10 miles...ever, don't let that into your thoughts. If you don't care about a ragtop, maintenance, or general costs, then a 911 sounds great especially if you have to modify the S2000. I miss my S2000 but I would miss it twice as much if I didn't have other toys and a new ragtop.
I say make the switch to the 911. Good luck.

I'd avoid anything before a 993. Unless you can shell out for a very well maintained turbo. Shoot for a 993 or 996 c2s.

Beautiful car (911) but in the end, I couldn't justify the switch to a less-reliable, older car that is (at best) only as quick, doesn't have a drop top and is harder to service and maintain. S2000 all the way!

yup. Definitely one of the 911 rubs. A bit more work to get to anything on it for sure. Two different driving experiences. Ever hear an 88 911 3.2 engine fire up? Dear lord what a musical boner that is. No s2K will EVER sound like that. Of course no 911 will ever blast its way down a freeway on ramp at 8K rpm while you shift the gears faster than a puppy crapping in a new pair of shoes while you wear a mile wide grin.
The 88 Porsche 911, all metal body, built just as tough as a Honda, if not tougher and the interiors wear like armor when taken care of properly. The Honda on many, many top ten lists and just about as boring, maintenance wise, as a car can get. Good posts guys, keep 'em coming if you have any more thoughts!

I definitely would if it were for a turbo 930, even for a 964, but NA would have to be at least a widebody and more heavily modded. One of these days Now if only I could keep both the S2000 and a 911 in the garage...
