Performance Driving School
I consider myself a fairly agressive and competent driver but would like the opportunity to improve without the expense of wrecking my car. Has anyone ever been to a performance driving school where they had a professional driving with you to show you how to really get the most out of you a car...specifically with your own vechile? I think since I have added the additional power, I could really benefit from the "advanced" instruction.
Is there any school here in AL or close by where you can drive your own car?
What does something like that cost?

That type of thing is available although I'm not sure of any in AL. The SCCA puts on PDX's and you can get some training with them. Chin Motorsports puts on events around the SE and they will also give some training.
Another idea would be to get a few other people together and rent TGPR for the day when a couple of experienced driver's / racers are available to give you good one on one instruction.
The fact that you are aware that you could really benefit from the "advanced" instruction is a good sign and puts you one step ahead of the game.
A good autocross school could also do you much good. While the speeds might be low there is no better way to practice car control skills in a safe environment. When I was racing a Formula Car I regularly autocrossed also just to practice car control.

NASA Southeast, although without rollover protection or a hardtop (or whatever flavor-of-the-week) Barber is not available to you. Road Atlanta, however, is not all that far.
You'll want to look at NASA's HPDE program: HPDE with NASA. Read all the way through, there are some good articles linked to from the bottom of that page.

Our local SCCA chapter here (TAC and TVR) give a driving school once a year. We have a classroom session on Friday (usually lasts about 2 hours). Saturday we set up various skill sections: tight technical section for looking ahead, emergency lane change, skid pad, kidney bean. Sunday we then have an auto-x where you get plenty of runs and instructors ride/drive with you. I think it costs around $40 or so. I believe it will be in March. I've done it twice and I highly recommend it.
I personally would like to go to Evolution sometime in the near future.

In Huntspatch, we have a former Skip barber instructor who usually helps with the TAC Slalom School in the Spring. He will also do one-on-one instruction for cash, and has been know to rent TGPR for private lessons or a private school, if you are interested in that level. It all depents on your wallet.
If you just start coming to our slaloms, you can get all the free instruction you can stand. If I'm not in my race car, I rarely take a run without a passenger.
