Annual Allegheny "Wake the Dragon"
Well, it's that time on year when everyone puts their car away and dreams dreams of better weather. What better way to dream the winter blahs away, than to plan for the Wake the Dragon event in April of 2009.
This 2009 event will be my 5th trip to the Dragon, and with the organizers permission, my second to organize a "Poker Run" at the event. While plans are still being made, and registration is not yet open, and likely will not be open till after the holidays, now is a good time to look at your schedule next year and start to make plans.
The link below is to the information thread for the event. As registration plans are posted, I will alert everyone.

Now, I will be leaving early Wed. April 22nd, with a stop over somewhere in between. (My route varies every year, and while I will run some interstate, I spend much of the trip down enjoying the mountain roads.) If you start in Pittsburgh, and run interstate all the way, you can make the trip in one day. For those of you interested in attending, post up!. Perhaps we can make some plans for an Allegheny caravan!

I would definitely be interested. I don't have any plans as of yet for that time period. I'm getting back from my tour in Iraq here shortly and i'm looking forward to spending some time having fun!

Ok, guys, it's time to commit - registration closes on March 15th - and over the next few weeks rooms at Fontana will be hard to get - so if your going NOW is the time to make plans. For my part, I will be leaving very early Wed morning, arriving at the Dragon around noon on Thursday.l Now you can make the drive from Pittsburg in 10-11 hours. I personally prefer the two day drive and enjoy some twisties on the way down.
My current plan will include a stop at either Pikeville, Ky ( late start) Lake City, Tn (early start) or Lexington, Ky (bad weather, slow driving stop) for Wed. night. If I make the Tenn. stop over I will be pre driving the Devils Triangle for the Saturday group drive. and then arrive at Fontana to pre-drive the Poker Run.
Anyway, if anyone wants to tag along, I would welcome the company. If you need to make your own travel plans, I will see you on Friday or Saturday!
