Default Checking this car

Is there anyone in the Pittsburgh area willing to check this car out for a potential buyer (me) stuck back in Indiana? My link

Carfax looks good. Just spoke with the sales manager and he seemed very agreeable. Would appreciate any local input.

Thanks,
Rex

Consynx, thanks for the offer. What do you think? My brother also plans to run by, but can't get there before Tuesday afternoon.

I looked at this advertisement earlier this morning! Could be worth a drive over!

I run thru the AutoTrader ads maybe once a month or so just being curious of asking prices, condition, etc. and this one looks very good on paper (or the computer screen). Only 5000 miles on the car since 2010 and the former owners had routine maintenance done according to the Carfax. Only routine maintenance I don't see is the brake fluid change which is every 30K. I'd ask to have this done before you drive it home.

No engine compartment photo but it's siting on a dealer showroom floor so I expect it's clean under there as well. Claimed no damage but it's easy to check the body panel VIN stickers, sight down the lines, etc,

No roof photos either. Mine had minor wear inside from the top frame (since smoothed and a wear patch placed on the fabric). Wear is normal unless the frame has been worked on; tears are unacceptable for a dealer car.

I noted 2 '06 blue cars this morning. These cars supposedly all came with blue interiors but the photos of this one look like it's black.

Not sure where you are in Indiana but this dealer is only a few minutes south of the PA Turnpike (I76 and accessible from I70 as well.).

We're under a blizzard watch in the region the next couple of days so I doubt anyone is car buying roadsters.

Looks like one I checked out in Columbus ~3 years ago. If the car fax has being in the northwest section of the Columbus outerbelt, let me know.

I can't get there till Saturday. I land in Pittsburgh tonight, but then have to head to Columbus Monday morning. If I wait for my car's service, I'll check it out while I wait. I remember some of the things to look for.

Thanks Chuck. I'll ask about the brake fluid and it they have done any prep service prior to sale.

The sales manager did have engine photos and roof up photos sent to me via email per my request. Although dark, both look in decent condition. In fact, the roof on this one actually seems to have a bit better "fit" than the blue one I looked at in Indy (also on Autotrader) and had apparently snatched from under me by an e-bay bidder (another story).

Interior shots are also not the best probably due to lighting.

Weather is also a factor for us, similar weather forecast only we ended up with snow and ice. Weather permitting, my brother may try to get to the dealer Tuesday afternoon and eyeball the car.

Thanks for your input.

consynx, Thanks again for the offer to check this our. I misunderstood which Saturday you would be there. My brother is going to try to get there Tuesday afternoon, weather and work schedule permitting, but I may still take you up on your offer as well since I couldn't possibly get there myself any sooner. It would still be great actually having an S owner look this over as well.

Not sure about the Columbus thing. According to the sales manager, they guy who traded it in was "an older guy probably in his 60s" (just like me!) who was likely the original owner. He said the car had been a lease in California, and brought it with him when he relocated to Ohio. Seems he may have either bought out the lease, or simply the new registration in Ohio shows up as a second owner. Sales guy was going to confirm, but he was almost certain the car is a one-owner.

Took a closer look at the additional photos the sales manager sent to me. Although they are pretty dark, the engine compartment looks good and clean. However, although the top appears to fit really well, it does look to me as though the roof may have been patched from the inside on both sides between the rib just above the rear window and next forward rib. It doesn't appear to be a very small area either.

This is rather disturbing since everything else about the car seems to be very good.

Opinions?

Roof job can run roughly 1500 bucks. OEM hardtop around 3200. Factor that in.

It was Germain Honda of Dublin that had the car I looked at.

Unlikely the same car though...

I'm actually not an s owner, but I can review the thread on why to look for again, and I am kind of mechanically inclined. (I just hang around because this group is very nice and friendly :-) )

Just let me know
