Since when is changing lanes within 100ft of an intersection illegal? I thought it was perfectly legal, though not recommended to change lanes while going through an intersection. I'm pretty sure my driving school instructor taught this too when I get my last ticket.

Well, I gotta put my 2c in.
Don't take the ticket personally, AND, it is not the end of the world.
Go to court and plead your case in front of a judge. Be super cool and you'll most likely get some money off.
Don't have the attitude that the police were out to get you... even if it appears that the man was. Just give your story; your defense, to explain that you are not a raving lunatic, but a man trying to get to work. Just the facts. Forget emotions.
Police are harsh on younger drivers at 2AM. Period. Been there, done that! Be honest with the judge.
the thing about this ticket, was that it was a female cop. And I am a female driver... It was around 9PM...

I'm not sure on this, so we'll have to check...
I'm the racer in my marriage, but yet my wife gets the tickets... three in the last three years, I think! She's been to traffic school and one thing she mentioned lately is that the laws have changed to include the ability to change lanes IN and intersection zone. Look up the laws to see if this is right. Not sure what valley city may have changed that article.
I've always just kept it as extra safety to NEVER change lanes inside when entering an intersection zone - especially during prime time.

In my HS driving school, I was taught to NEVER change lanes - esp. toward the outside in an intersection zone while under the green light. But that was 30 years ago. Me, it just makes sense. NEVER change lanes toward the intersection in an intersectioin. You may collide with someone who committed to pulling in. They look, they turn to pull in, you change in, they pull in... bang!
BTW... I've seen many drivers change lanes in the intersection zone. That's why I have my eyeballs ON and don't turn right even while the cars seem to stay in the middle.
Be careful out there!
