AC compressor change?
Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone has any experience changing out our AC compressors? I dont know if its something i should try and do my self if its a matter of a few bolts. It looks like it might be sort of difficult to get to with the subframe in the way. I searched around and couldnt find any DIYs on this. Secondly, i know its a longshot but does anyone have a good compressor laying around? I have an ap1, im assuming ap1 and ap2 compressors are the same.
Id like to be able to do it myself since the labor at a decent shop would be too expensive for me, plus i have to pay for the flush/charge. Also, anyone know if a good/cheap shop around here for a flush and charge?
If anyone would be willing to lend a hand or any tips in buying/changing it, that would be great.
Thanks for the help yall

You need to go to a shop that has an a/c machine to pull the freon out before you can disassemble johnny #5. I think the compressor can drop out under the car with simply removing the 4 long bolts.
The helms says to take the alternator out (easy) and work from the top probably because the hoses are more accessible.
Ben has a good source for replacement compressors. Used ones are hit or miss as they'll probably die on you sooner than later.
I go to my buddy Mike in Tempe for a/c pull and recharge service.

You definitely need to have the refrigerant removed before you disassemble. This isn't a very difficult thing to do but you need to measure the oil that is removed from your compressor and insure that you add the same amount to the new compressor. Replace all o-rings while you have it apart also.
