Alpine Head Unit
#21
Thanks for the input everyone. It seem like whenever anyone starts looking for a single din CD receiver, Alpine, Pioneer, or Kenwood always make the top of the list. I've read the details of each of the top units and I've decided on the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X997 as it does it all. For my needs it offers the numerous EQ, bass, and loudness options given the the road and cabin noise in the CR plus BT, CD format conversion capabilities. I also like the USB options and the variable color options and customization. Plus there are other options that the Alpine and Pioneer do not have. I owned a Kenwood deck years ago and never had any issues and was also easy to use. Now it's time to search for the best price.

Here's a deal on a clearance alpine at Tempe BestBuy.
If my Kenwood wasn't still going strong, I'd probably go pick this one up .

I've been thinking of upgrading my head unit in the CR to something with a bit more sound quality and some flexibility with iPod, etc. I came across this one. I'm not sure if anyone has this unit in their vehicle? I've been reading the Electronic forums but there just seems to be some much information on so many choices. However, Alpine units seem to be the head unit of choice among many owners. So I've decided on an Alpine unit and that fact that the units merge well with the Modify DCI. It seems to have all the bells and whistles plus a tuning app for iPhones. Any experience and thoughts are welcome.

Alpine is awesomesauce. I have the amp too but haven't installed it yet.
Where do you mount it in the S2k?
Also, Modifry's P&P harness packs the DCI and Honda interface in one neat cable.
I highly recommend it.

I installed the Amp under the driver seat but the key will be the lenght of the cables and routing. I will take pictures to make your life easier. Good to see you again. How is the car?

I've seen people do a custom mod in the secret compartment as well for the Power Pack. It's small enough and the good think is you can unplug it and take it out in track days if need be.

I went this this exact head unit a few months ago. I decided to get the powerpack amp right off the bat as well. The unit is performing well so far (except sometimes bluetooth pairing on my Android isn't the greatest and have to disable/re-enable on the handset to auto start pandora again). The Alpine Tune-App is pretty sweet, but I haven't spent a lot of time in that.
Overall, pleased with the setup. For not having subs, the system sounds plenty fine.
Alpine - CDE HD149BT (easy install, ran USB and audio cables to center console through pre-existing holes in center console)
Alpine KTP-445A Power Pack (fits nicely behind the passenger dash)
Polk Audio db6501 components
Modifry DCI
Good Luck!
Cheers
