Go to:

Control Panel
Network Connections
SELECT your Network Interface Connection - probably called "Local Area Connection" (double click)
Click Properties
Double Click "Internet Protocol TCP/IP"

In there:

Check "Use the following IP address"
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Do the same on the other machine but use IP Address 192.168.0.3

If you have a proper crossover CAT5 cable (they are sold at Fry's for about $4) - you should be able to map a network drive from your new laptop. However, you will first need to share the drive you want to copy the data from on the ex's laptop.

If that does not work call Lee
Will just broke this down as well as possible. Joe if you can't figure this out, you shouldn't be using a computer.

Should have bought a USB Data Link Cable. It would have been soooooo easy.

Crossover cables take more work.
