Considering moving to Tucson
So I'm considering taking a job in Tucson. Unfortunately I haven't spent much time there, and am looking for an idea of the best areas to live, with a (hopefully) short commute to central (Craycroft & 22nd) Tucson. I've heard that the Foothills/Tanque Verde area is pretty nice. Any truth to this? I'm looking for something comparable to Scottsdale...
Hopefully the Tucson peeps can chime in with their recommendations.

Pros - Its closer to Mexico if you ever want to escape the U.S.
Cons - Every single day, someone from AZHT is crying because their car got stolen in 3 seconds right outside their front door at home or work. (seriously)

Pros: it s not phoenix, not so g-awful hot either.
Cons: some streets flood after monsoons. I avoid triving my s for a couple days after a big monsoon because of all the gravel on the road. Oh yeah, some streets have really bad potholes.
Craycroft and 22nd isn't what I'd call midtown. That's southeast town to me. Id check out the Vail area if that was where I worked. foothills and tanque verde areas are good as well.
Depends on life style whether you'll like Tucson over Phoenix. Personally I'd rather slit my wrist than live anywhere near phoenix. And yes, I know Phoenix all very well. But I know others who feel the opposite. Go figure...

It seems most Phx guys don't like Tucson, and Tucson guys don't like Phoenix - but also...some Tucson guys dont like Tucson
It definitely is not Phx though - NW side of town will be the most like Scottsdale, but that's similar to saying a Corolla is most like an S2000.....only because the other option is a wombat.
I like Tucson - it definitely has a smaller town feel. If you like to 'use' the whole city, you may go nuts, as the roads are not great here. Layout AND condition. Its a pain to try to get around in my opinion, so I usually just stay in my little area and it all works out. Getting from the NW side, to east side will be stoplights every 1/2 block - there is no loop. I-10 is nearly worthless, depending on where you want to go. 90% of the city is on the east side of it.
Its also cooler here - seemingly year round. It also seems to cool down at night more in the summers.
Its more liberal than Phoenix, and our Sheriff is a retard.
Its easier to get outta town too - and there are some cool things around. Tombstone, Mt. Lemmon, Kitt Peak, Colossal Caverns, Desert Museum, Old Tucson to name a few.

I've only been to Tucson maybe half a dozen times but what struck me each time was the traffic. For a small-ish town the traffic was pretty heavy on the surface streets and I-10 seems to under permanent construction. Maybe its done now, been a while.

Just my biased opinion.
