Emissions
Hey, I posted here awhile ago about possibly moving to AZ (Tucson). Since then I've been offered a job there and will start there within a few weeks. I was wondering what kind of smog laws are there. I was running a test pipe here (Albuquerque) after I had been through emissions. I'm assuming emissions is required for registration.
A few questions are:
1. How long is the emission test usually good for? It was 2 years here...
2. Anyone with a TP aware of how strict they are.. I.E. California strict or probably pretty easy to get away with it as far as cops smelling exhaust and what-not.
3. When I got an emission test on my truck all he did was plug into the OBD II port and that was it....i asked kinda told the kid working there about my situation with my Honda and that if i brought it in without it throwing a CEL would it pass. He said he isnt required to do a visual and only puts a sniffer in the tailpipe if there is a code. Anyone know how accurate that is to AZ emissions?
I took the TP out for now just because IF I sold it, it would be nice to sell it being able to pass emissions. And if AZ is crazy about it less hassle, but I would be planning on putting it back in.

You worry too much. AZ is pretty relaxed as far as emissions. There is no visual. They just plug-in the OBDII and as long as it reports all sensors ok, you're good to go. I think some of the later years don't require emissions at all. Yes period is 2 years.
No worries about the TP as long as your o2 is not throwing a CEL.
Emissions of this car is something like 1% of the allowed so even with TP it would be way under the spec. I tried this with an old Civic that was sniffed.

Hmm, good to know. I guess I just get worried about the horror stories I hear with thousand dollar fines for no CAT.... I guess I was assuming it would be worse the closer to CA I got.
Few more questions.....is AZ a front license plate state? I didnt think it was just checking.
Also, I saw that post about the speed cameras. Is that in PHX only or has it bled to Tucson? They are rampant here in Albuquerque but not on the freeways yet thank goodness.

As far as I know, the speed cameras are only in Phoenix, and only in certain areas of Phoenix...
(Most notably Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe, and the 101).
You'll have to ask the Tucson guys about speed cameras there.
