I think it should say on the information with the ticket he gave you. Be prepared to waste an entire day doing it.

First you should check to see if violations from AZ even get reported to WA. If it doesn't you can just pay the fine and forget wasting your time on a course.

Do the traffic school online. States are connected via the Internet these days. You don't want to get caught not showing up for court in AZ.

This is about the furthest from correct information you could give him.

The DMV in all states is still a government entity. If you've ever worked for the government you know that they do as little work as possible in many cases. Many states do not recognize or even report tickets from/to other states.

I've gotten speeding tickets up and down the East Coast and in AZ and not once has it appeared on my NYS Driver record.

He got the ticket in AZ, he has a WA driver's license. The officer probably told him to take the online course to remove the points. But if the points are not recognized or the violation is not even reported to his state there is absolutely no need for him to take the course. All he has to do is pay the fine if that is the case. He doesn't have to worry about "not showing up for court in AZ" if the fine is paid. They don't haul you to court for paying the fine. If he takes the course, he would have to pay the fine and the cost of the course.

A quick internet search says that WA doesn't even have/use a point system. I'm sure with a little more searching he can figure out if they even take into account tickets from other states.

Take your chances. I am a former AZ certified Defensive Driving Instructor. I know personally that California and Arizona communicate. It won't be long before all others do, too, if they don't now.

http://autos.aol.com/article/out-of-...eeding-ticket/

"How the states process violations and which violations they take into consideration also differ: some only use it for what they consider serious offenses, some have further requirements for taking action."

So again, he really needs to find out what WA would actually do. There is no point in spending extra money on a course if he doesn't need to. I am not saying don't pay the fine, pay it, but why take the course if it isn't going to affect him?
