Hello everyone,
The club is going to use GMRS 1 watt frequencies on our club drives instead of the older FRS 1/2 watt frequency technology. This gives us up to a 5 mile range and twice the power output of the FRS frequencies we currently use. This will help us stay in touch with everyone as our caravans begin to get longer. It should also provide a clearer signal since you are broadcasting with twice the power.
Please review your radio to determine if it is 1 watt GMRS compatible. If you need help determining if your radio is 1 watt GMRS, please PM me with the make and model number of your radio and I will do the research for you.
I just upgraded to 1 watt FRS/GMRS dual band two-way radios at Costco - cost was $54.
The Costco $49.99 + tax (~$54) package included:
-2 motorola FRS/GMRS 1 watt radios - model 5710
-2 ni cad batteries
-1 charging cradle (charges both radios or batteries)
-2 belt clips
-2 push to talk earbud microphones (the good kind for our drives)
-4 face plates - 2 grey, 1 black, 1 yellow
-1 manual
Costco also had a $69.99 (online $59.99) package of 2 (model 5950) that included NOAA weather channel reception.
Thanks,
Jordan

Hey, if anyone wants a good radio cheap without all the trimmings...
I've got a royal blue (1) GMRS 5 mile, 1 watt radio with a PTT mike, that takes regular AA batteries (which lasted [is that a word?] me about a year) for sale for $20. I want the new one - it comes in yellow!
PM me for the GMRS w/ PTT and AA, ASAP!!

I have some T6310's but I don't think they will work, can anyone verify? I don't have a problem upgrading. Also does anybody know how easy it is to obtain the FCC licenses and cost for these higher powered radios, that is why I didn't get them the in the first place a few years ago. I just wanted to buy the things and use them and since they're just for recreation I didn't think I needed a 5 mile range at the time.
