Default Installing an iPod

I've heard of people installing a wire to they can just plug in their iPod into their car stereo. I wanted a little feedback on it. If I remember correctly, walkabt had one, right? Does anyone else?

I wanted to know how the sound quality was and how you installed it. I've heard of the FM tuner where you can just get it to play on one of your FM channels, but that doesn't work too well. What other options are there? Obviously the cassette tape won't work because our cars don't have one. I've got an Alpine CDA-9833 if that helps.

TIA

If you have an alpine that is model 2004 and up, look at this:

http://www.alpine-usa.com/products/leading...ch_kca-420i.htm

otherwise you would need to go with some kind of aux inputs depending on your headunit..

I just looked up your head unit, and it is iPod interface ready - the perfect option for you - you can run your iPod and see song list directly on your alpine, plus it charges it as it is plugged in.

For the factory head unit, you can buy the special adapter here

It plugs into the 6 disc changer plug.

Otherwise, as Doc said, you just need a head unit with Aux outputs (I have a Premiere deck with aux output)

walkabt has done an incredible job of researching mounting and wiring options - can be seen here.

(Hope you don't mind, Jordan)

Wow, that is S W E E T!
It's like a seamless integration with the deck, like in the BMWs.

Thanks for all your advice guys!

KCA-420i is slow as molasses though. Most people are not satisfied with the Alpine unit after a week.

Info can be found on:
www.ipodlounge.com > forums > in car solutions

also do a search in the electronics forum here. Most power users are back to the aux inputs only. Scroll rate is about 1 song per second and there are other limitations.

Noooo! That's not what I wanted to hear! This could have been my end-all solution to my music needs. I hate carrying cds around.

I'll look into the AUX inputs. Those may be alright.

If you think aux inputs "may be alright," what exactly are you looking for in a connection?

Actually that's what I was looking for to start with, but then Doc presented this awesome option and my mind set shifted.

AUX inputs will do the trick.
