Check this website in the afternoon when storms are building around the valley. When the lightning strike reading gets to several hundred a minute it is an indicator that the storms are very strong.

Saw some crazy lightning tonight between Quartzite and Buckeye and managed to get just enough rain to clean the windshield.

why do they call this "monsoon season"? because these storms are not monsoons, more like scattered rain for a couple minutes.
