I am getting close to getting new fronts soon. Running 255 RE760 sports on the rear now. Do you think I should consider a 235 upfront? I have always ran a 225 up front.
You are running 255 on the rears but you were afraid to buy my 255's because they would rub?

Doesn't make sense kid

I still want to try the NT05's and the RE07 someday but found a deal for some R888's I couldn't pass up so I'll be wearing those out. I do know they are not a good idea for street use and I'm sure they won't last long.

My PP's lasted for 30k miles and handled great so for those.

BFG Sport are very popular but I personally don't think they handle anywhere close to what we're used to.
You got 30k on your tires ? You mean fronts right ? I don't see how i could get over 20k on my rears.

cu@9k, no clue what you are talking, I am not afraid to run 255, you have me mixed up. I was going to buy your fronts, but I looked at all the reviews and your BFG's were ranked considerably worse than what is already on my car. Check out tirerack. Please refrain from calling me kid...thanks.

UMS, my RE760 Sports are ranked higher than the stock tires in every category. Not sure what you meant. I am running stock AP2 size wheels.

I was thinking of a different Bridgestone, the 960, my apologies....

I have never been a fan of the 040 or the 050....if these 760's are better then good.

if you are ruuning stock AP2 wheels then stay with the 225-45-17

a 235-40-17 on a 7" wide wheel is a no-no in my book adn you lose the benefits of a wider tire because the sidewalls are pulled in by the narrow wheel

235-40-17 needs a 7.5 minimum...8 is better!

Thanks for your input....while I was cruising through the thread, I think I mis-read and it sounded like people said use a 235 on stock wheels, which I thought was a bit wide, but that was my mistake.

I have like the 760's so far...nothing amazing, but better than stock and still offer some good performance vs wear. They will just have to hold me over until I get another set of wheels down the road. When I bought my car it had 225 F and 245 R, and it oversteered BIG time, well, power on oversteered, was fun, but not ideal. Then I bumped to the 255 R, and the car was much more balanced.

Going 10mm over stock is worse if you dont take both Front and Rear up 10mm. It will change the balance of the car if you change just the front or rears. Bigger fronts could bring more oversteer, bigger rears can induce more understeer. Also depends on how you drive the car. So if your buying new tires, then up all 4 in size.

There are a lot of awesome tires out there, ultimately it just comes down to what you want to pay...and how much performance you want. That is it. Pick your price point, then head out to tirerack, compare all the tires in your price range, create a short list...then read some reviews here on s2ki. Most likely you will end up with RE-11R, Dumlop Star Specs, Advan, Khumo MX, and maybe even Azenis. Those would be the best for performance.

I bought the Bridgestone Re760 because I wanted high treat life, but a better overall tire than stock. It was always my intention to buy different wheels, and save my money on better tires for those other wheels.

Did the '04's come with SO2's?.
The RE760, 340 treadwear, seriously? Sounds like crap.

Yes, I got 30k out of my stock RE050's. The rears were almost bald but I'm wanting to say they gripped even better that way. I tracked them many times.

Actually I was considering Re11 as an alternative.

I think since it seems best to get 10mm wider all at once, i'll just go same size for the rears and then hopefully when the fronts are low then the rears will be low again as well

04's came with I think the 050 or 040. Yea the 760 are 340 tread wear, and got better ratings than the stock tires in all categories. Like I said though, I bought them with the intent of having a good DD tire. At the time I was driving the S between NC and PA once a month, so tread life was real important. Now living in AZ, my daily commute is only about 20 miles per day...mostly straight, but at least I got one traffic circle to haul through.
