Lee,

I completely agree, but I do know for a fact that there were a ton of cars that were having a rough idle problem on cold mornings. Some people had this software loaded before BMW initiated the service action and it did fix the problems.

Strange, very strange. I never had any cold start problems because, well, it just doesn't get that cold here.

I heard about numerous M3 engine failures on a BMW messageboard from E46 owners. It is something that is widely known.

True, and I am not trying to say that the failures didn't happen. I am just saying that the engine computer was not the cause of the problem.

If anyone is truely interested in the background of the failures do a search on the E46 M3 board over on Roadfly.com. There will be tons of stuff about it and plenty of pictures as well.

Refer back to GNALUZU's earlier post about the rod bearings. After the recall was performed, I have yet to hear of a single issue related to something other than a money shift.

Wonder how you can tell if the recall was performed or not.

Get the VIN number and call a dealership. They will be able to tell you. Also, the extended engine warranty is only in place if the service action was performed.
