Default soft top down!

I was leaving work tonight, and went to put my top down like I always do. But this time, I heard a crack sound....put the top up to find a nice semi-circle 4-5 inch hole in my plastic rear window. Not really sure where to go from here, since i'm not rich or anything I can't really afford a new top. Guess it all comes down to what lori can do for me at honda. Pretty crappy situation, because I know they are going to be like...."normal wear and tear."

Ask Joe (ragingazn) if he still has his old top. We replaced it a couple months ago.

There is a pretty simple modification you can do to the 00-01' frame that will allow you to use a glass rear window top.

Still looking into my options. But putting another plastic rear window on doesn't seem like a realistic option at this point in time. Since honda just seem's to think it's "normal wear," i'd just be setting myself up for another new top in the future.

Robert, unfortunately, it is normal wear and tear. What else could it be? The window is plastic... The Miatas and the BMW Z3s have had the same problem for years. The Miata's top used to bleed into its plastic window. That's why all companies went to glass windows - to avoid the frustration owners experience.

I know it is going to happen to me too in the future, I bought a car with a plastic window and I realized that going in, just like I realized my bumper wouldn't hold up to rock chips - that's wear and tear too and that's life.

Stop moaning and move on - situation sucks, you can stay in the depressed mode or look at everyone here trying to help. Go for the glass top if that's an option and your resources are limited.

Keep your head up and move forward!

$1700 for plastic.

$2100 for glass.

Get the glass, it's worth it. Have had both - no comparison & no more problems. Even has a defroster!

You can always buy a hardtop and be done with it. You can take the hardtop off when you want to go top down.

This could hurt resale when the time comes.
