The Specialists
I don't know if The Specialists has a store in the valley, so you northern folks may not have to worry about this place.
I went in to The Specialists at the Tucson auto mall because I wanted to get an "aux in" installed on my CD deck and I work in the auto mall at a dealership that gives them 250,000 a year in business. I went in on Wednesday and they said they could get it installed for around 60-70 bucks by using an adapter for my CD changer port and running a jack out the front of the CD player. The guy said they had the part I needed at their Speedway store and that I could get it done on Friday and that he would call me. He did not call me. I called him Friday, 30 minutes before I left for work and he said he would call me before I left for work. He again, did not. About and hour later while I was at work (1/2 mile away from the store), he called and said I could drop my car off.
I dropped it off and went back to work. About an hour later, I get a call from a different employee there saying that the part they had ordered wasn't the right part, and that they got another part that would work. I said "okay" and hung up. I then receive the call that my car was finished, and they told me it was going to cost ~130 dollars. (Double what i was quoted at). I told them that that wasn't going to work, because that was twice what I was quoted for. They lower the price to 70 and I pick my car up (still on the clock at work), and quickly returned to work. One strange thing that bugged me was that my engine was hot (3 bars) when I picked it up, which led me to believe that it "may" have been driven. I called them and asked a manager why it could've been hot, and he assured me that it wasn't driven and that I could watch the cameras. I took his word.
When I got off work and had time to fiddle with what they had done, I was quickly upset. They installed an FM Modulator. The audio quality was crap and half of the radio stations got complete static. This isn't what I had ordered at all. I was really upset. I was busy with work and out of town plans until today.
Today when I went in and asked to talk to a manager. The owner of the store came out and I told him that they installed a completely wrong part and that I wanted it uninstalled and my money refunded. The manager agreed to, and we went and pulled up my invoice. We were talking about the situation, and when I told him I'd like to watch the tapes, he was so offended (much unlike the manager I spoke to on the phone). He repeatedly said, "I'm sorry you don't appreciate what we've done for you here". And I kept repeating that they installed the completely wrong part without my consent and attempted to charge me double what I was quoted at. He did the whole tilt his head forward and look over his glasses thing at me. He was being very rude to me, and even said I wasn't welcome back. I wasn't raising my voice or anything. He just started flipping his bitch after I told him that I wanted to watch the tapes. He then walked me to my car and said he wanted me to pull my car into the back so I couldn't make any more accusations, and he told me to watch them remove the modulator. I eventually was refunded my money (we'll see when it shows up on my bank statement).
I have a friend that said he dropped his car off at the Specialists, and later saw his car fly by at 100mph.
I wouldn't recommend anyone go to one of their stores.
