Thanks Gloffer.
Just changed my trans/diff fluids last weekend. The transmission fluid appeared to be ok and now shifts are smoother.
My question is on the rear diff. How much debris on the magnetic drain plug is normal? The gear oil was very dirty and what a nice aroma.
I have MY02 with 7,200 miles.
Thanks,
Rick

When I did mine, the magnet was covered to about 1/32 inch with "fuzz." There's a pictue on the second page of this post that shows about what mine was like. https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...40&pagenumber=2
Subsequent changes have had less "fuzz." Because I track the car occasionally, I'm changing tranny and diff fluids every other oil change. Since I'm using Mobil 1, I change the engine oil every 5000 miles.

Mike,
The pictures in that post are hard to tell the thickness.
Mine had more than 1/32nd, but no large metal shavings. I would guess maybe 1/16th-1/8th of fuzz. The diff fluid was very dirty compared to the trns fluid.
Thanks,
Rick

Fuzz on the magnet is perfectly normal, thats what its there for. As long as there are no chunks or slivers of metal don't worry about it. 80-90 weight diff fluid smells awfull, ( just try spilling some on you and have to wear it all day long) It also gets dark in color after a few thousand miles.
