Default Verdict is in on the engine

So it's pretty much official, my F20C is dead. Nearly zero compression in #4 cylinder (and half spec compression in 2 others). Without doing a complete teardown, they said that I am looking at a whole new head, unless they find damage to any of the pistons, which means a whole new engine.

At first they said warranty wouldn't cover it because the oil was 2.5 quarts low and they diagnosed it as oil starvation, but I contested because I double checked my oil that morning, and according to the dipstick, it was right where it should have been.

They requested all my records that weren't through them (Tempe Honda) and I faxed over all that I had handy for now. So as of right now it seems that they will cover it. We shall see over the next day or so.

keep the rag you checked it with, they will find ANY excuse not to pay, that way if needs be, you can try to test the oil to show how it went from great to shit as well as how it was burning the piss out of it.

Told you it would be #4. Hope they cover it and your back on the road soon. Either way if you have to you can always claim it under insurance (as long as you have full coverage). Hope to see it running soon. I cant be the only Hardtop running the canyons!!!

yeah my left arm starting tingling when they told me it would be on my dime! anyway so i just got off the phone with the guy at Tempe and he said that everything should be on. He got my fax, and there is one more record to be faxed and I should be off the hook.

BTW G, you were right! #4 it was!

Sorry to hear about your loss. I thought that the #4 cyl problem was only on the 00-01 and was fixed w/the 02+. Hopefully you'll be back on the road soon.

I believe it was oil banjo bolts being too small causing oil starvation but was supposedly fixed w/ later 02+. Don't quote me on that though.

Glad it's going to be taken care of but it's a MY03 and still in warranty? Man you must not drive it at all. Also, how does that work when the F20C is no longer in production? I guess the 10 year rule prolly holds but still sounds weird. I'd have them drop in an F22C

I have an extended warranty through my company. Yeah that would be something if I had a Honda warranty still at 76,000 miles!
