Big Trip and suggestions?
Im taking a rollercoaster pilgrimage this weekend. Im heading to Six Flags Over Texas(Dallas) Saturday morning then down to San Antonio (Six Flags Fiesta Texas) Sunday Morning then to Houston Monday Morning (Astroworld). I have never driven this route before and it will be quite a few miles on my S but does anyone have any suggestions that may have traveled some of these roads?
bring ear plugs and sunscreen. long times at highway speeds=mind numbing drone to ears. I found the S quite comfortable for the drive from galveston to pensacola. (about same distance as slidell to dallas, give or take). my wife did not find the trip as comfortable.
make to to VTEC every so often to stay awake and get rid of the numb feeling in your legs

definitely bring sunscreen. and be sure to bring plenty of water -- the sun and wind dry you out surprisingly fast.
if you're not in a big rush to get from place to place i strongly recommend using a mapping program like DeLorme's Street Atlas USA to make your routes and choose 'Scenic Routing' vs 'Fastest Routing'. i don't think MapQuest has that option...
it might take a bit longer to run your route, but the generally less travelled and twisty roads makes the trip in the S a lot more enjoyable. also, i've found that a large portion of interstate noise isn't just from wind, but from the traffic around you... on those back roads, the ride is much quieter and much more enjoyable. when the wife and i take trips in the S, we generally leave the top up for the longer straight interstate sections and drop it for the back roads.
we're actually planning to be travelling up to the Dallas area this weekend as well... i haven't plotted a route just yet, but we're probably going to be travelling with others, so i'm afraid we'll be stuck on interstates most of the way.

I have done all of those parks that you have mentioned. I wouldn't do San Antonio again if someone paid me. It was a waste of my time and hard earned money. Rides were broken and the park was dirty and smelly.
I enjoyed the city and the river walk though. That was really nice!
So my suggestion on the best route would be to skip SA! Then you could just do Houston then go north to dallas.
SA is South of Houston and Dallas is North of Houston. Makes for an odd trip. Also... I thought the Six Flags parks were only open on the weekends now?
Man... I love roller coasters! I am jelous!
You need to find a Dave n Busters to go eat/play at. You want the buffalo chicken wrap!!! Man that thing is good! Do a search on the net for them. There is one in Houston and Dallas!

i've been to the D&B's in both Houston and Dallas (as well as others elsewhere), and would highly recommend both... just be sure to bring some bucks as they aren't cheap.
i'm a coaster fiend myself, but a little girl and more coming has kind of cramped my style in the last few years...
i VERY much look forward to when they are old enough that i can travel around with them and show them the coaster ropes...

Dont know about back roads PJK3 I have seen too many Texas Chainsaw movies
As for San Antionio I really just want to see the city since I have never been.. Im staying on the riverwalk.. Westin to be exact. Six Flags Fiesta however has Superman Kryptonite which would make the first floorless coaster for me.. Since I have a season ticket at Six Flags already its free so might as well go.. Main objective is The Titan at SFOT. Astroworld is only an ok park by may standards but I have friends in Houston so im making that stop. I think S2K owners and Rollercoaster fiends go hand in hand.

IMO, the SA area has the best Tex/Mex food. In fact my favorite Tex/Mex joint is just up the road in New Braunfels. They have a great and cheap lunch menu and they're only a couple of blocks off I-35. If you're going through there at lunch time try the Adobe.
I stayed at the Mansion del Rio on the Riverwalk. I enjoyed it. They do have great food there. I ate and ate and ate
New Braunfels... oh man now you are talking Schliiterbahn!!
I have ridden the Superman in SA and in Atlanta. They are awesome. The one in SA has a great roll off the hill. You will love it. However... the park is pretty much downhill from there.
Astroworld is OK. I usually catch an Astros game in the new stadium then do Astroworld the next day.
Your trip sounds like so much fun!

I will give a full report when I get back next Tuesday. Thanks for all the suggestions. I did hear wonders about Schliterbahn.. Just dont think I will make it out there. I agree Astroworld is pretty much the red headed stepchild of Six Flags.. I may catch a Rangers game on Saturday I heard that parl was great. Went to SF over georgia earlier this year and loved it.. Their flying coaster was fun, however short. Fav coaster there was actually their oldest one .. mindbender. Anyway next year im making the ultimate pilgrimage.. Cedar Point!
