Default Top Question

Well, I'm starting to notice the infamous top tear. The area above the passenger's shoulder is starting to fray. I know they released TSB 09-003 which addresses the problem, but the problem is the local dealer (Honda World) subs all the top jobs to a local top shop. I don't know if they would follow the TSB and I would rather fix the problem myself if possible. Can anyone tell me where the "lock handle" and the right rear frame hinge are and where they should be sanded down? Anyone got the best method to sand them down? Thanks!

Summary: Where is the "lock handle" and right rear frame hinge areas to sand down?

this should help you out. if those pics dont show the right area where your hole is, the just feel around the frame near your hole for rough spots or jagged edges.

Thanks jimmy. What type of tool should I use to file it down? Anyone else done some preventative measures?

you could use sand paper, probably a 300-400 grit followed by a 800 grit. or you could use an actual file if theres enough room.

on a side note, i think i saw your car the other day. its been about a month or so, maybe 2 months. but it was a white ap2, with a UCA sticker in the back window. it was parked in the parking lot of chilis and whole foods in little rock, just off of I-430.

yeah that was me! the g/f forced me to go to chili's, i personally am not a big fan of chilis lol. I'm amazed that I'm not getting any replys with how people have tried to fix the problem. I know SPURS had to do something about it . I guess I'll try a file, I was thinking sand paper but wasn't sure how effective it would be.

I'm always looking at mine for wear... I see mine is starting to develop in that same spot. Doubt the dealer would do anything since it hasn't actually torn through yet.
I bought some Velcro strips and vinyl glue from lowes tonight, and may fix up a patch for it, so it doesn't get any worse.

Yeah I'm trying to stay away from the glue though alan since I'm in warranty still. Might have to take you up on that dremel idea though

Well the strange thing is, I felt the piece that supposedly causes the tear, and mine is relatively smooth, not jagged
