Default S2000 or RX7

Hi Guys,

I have an S2K in London and am thinking of changing it for a Mazda RX7.

I know the RX7 has stopped production but I can get access to some left at dealers in Japan - any comments?

Quite frankly, I think my driving is better suited for a turbo car and the Rx7 has two!

Cheers,

Zahir

If you are happy not to have a convertible, the RX7 is a great car ..... not sure what servicing etc., prices would be like in the UK given that it is rotary and therefore very specialist for works ......

You want to be rid of your S2K? Pity. Each to their own, nevertheless the RX7 is a nice car to have too.

I've seen plenty of these on the roads and they look brand new! The car also featured on Mazda's TV adverts (Jan/Feb 2002) too.

Not sure if dealers still have them for sale. However, when I was looking for a car to purchase there were plenty of very good second hand examples out here.

If you want to contact the dealers, may I suggest you make really good friends with a native JP speaker who is willing to help you or perhaps try a UK JP car importer.

Well, if it is possible try to get both. The RX-7 is one HECK of a car. The problem over here (states) is there are few people to work on them. The S2000 is a GREAT car in its own right. I had planned to do some FI mods soon but I am in the middle of some other things so the FI S2000 may be put on hold for a year or two.

Both are great cars. Get what you like most.

Thanks Guys, any idea why they stopped the RX7?

What are the pro's and con's over an S2K?

Cheers,

Z.,

the RX-7 is generally faster in 1/4 mile i believe but is ment to be really unreliable and i dont think would have better lap times than an S. To be honest id much rather have n S over an RX-7

if you watch the best videos, the RX7 normally blows away an S2000 on the circuit - it is pretty fast, has the maximum allowable horsepower in Japan. It is rated in a higher category than what the Honda races in the touring car due to it's speed.

What I've read about the NEW RX-7's (RX-8 ???) Mazda is claiming 0-60 and 1/4 mile times slightly slower than the S2000. We haven't gotten one here yet so no test drives to refute or confirm their claims. Is it even out yet, if not when will it be out? The pictures I have seen I'd say I hafta agree with the mag writers that it may be the prettiest cars to come out of Japan. It reminded me of the old Cheetah race car from the late 60's.......

The Rx8 is nothing like the Rx7. The latter has 2 turbos and a 0-60 time of 5 seconds, while the Rx8 is no turbos and a 0-60 time of around 6 seconds. One is a 2 door and the other a 4-door.

Should a later model of the Rx8 get fitted with 2 turbos like the Rx7, then that would be interesting!
