Will you stay exclusively in tokyo? will you be traveling outside of tokyo? one thing i would suggest would be a JR Rail Pass. I used it while I was in Japan and it was a great benefit. I was able to visit Kyoto, Nagoya, Osaka as well while I was there. If you are there for work, maybe your company will supply you the pass
Tokyo has many places to visit as well...just depends on what you're interested in seeing.

Primary in Tokyo and won't be going out of town much.
I'm hoping to see all I can while I'm there. Won't get too many oppt to visit unless company decides they want me there for a while.

Can't wait to go!!!

there are many areas to visit... the nice thing is everything is in English so hopefully you won't get lost.
akihabara is a cool area for gadgets.
shibuya/shinjiku are great areas to visit/eat/hang out
ginza for shopping (lots of nice cars.. everything is super $$$)

there are tons of neat areas to visit...
another person to maybe contact is Tokyo James. He lives in Tokyo and might be able to better help you out

either way..have a great time..post some pictures of your trip when you come back!!!!

here are a few pictures from when i went 2+ years ago...

I recently moved to Tokyo from the UK. Let me know if you want to meet up for a beer.

Some of my favorite places in tokyo:

1. the shrine at Asakusa (kaminari-mon) Take yamanote line to Ueno, then Ginza sub line to Asakusa
2. Ebisu(yebisu) Beer Museum (yamanote line- ebisu station)
3. Motorcycle shops in Ueno
4. Walking around Ginza at night with all the neon.
5. Honda Welcome Plaza in Aoyama (Hanzomon sub line from Tokyo to Aoyama ichi-chome)

just outside of town -
1. Kirin Beer Village in Yokohama (sorry not sure how to get there by rail)
2. Ikebukuro (Toyota Amlux Showroom, Sunshine Plaza)
3. Toshima-en pool complex (Seibu line from ikebukuro)

Even hole in the wall restaurants can turn out to be prohibitively expensive. Menus are usually posted outside, so look first.

Just came back from Tokyo on Sunday.

Yea, i second the shrine in Asakusa, tons of souvenir places there too! Got my fortune (was great!), got some smells on me for luck, dropped some coin in the wishing well thingy and more! Even picked up a Katana (fake) of course, but its bad ass!!

Went to Honda Welcome center in Aoyama, got some cool goods from there, Honda shirts, hat, etc. I just barely fit them though...if you're bigger than 6'0" 170lb. you might not fit into anything there. I had to get the biggest size they have (oversize)!!

Went to Aqua City in Odaiba, they have a fake beach inside, plus lots of neat shops. Plus outside they got a statue of liberty (lol), the weirdo Fuji building, the biggest ferris wheel i've ever seen, the Tokyo big sight, and the cool Toyota center there.

Did the whole Akihabara, Ginza, Roppongi, Shibuya, and Shinjuku too. Lots to see and do. Didn't use a rail pass, I stayed only in the Tokyo area. Subways/JR line are easy to navigate, better if you can read/understand Japanese a little bit. I just wish I had more time to visit the car shops like Mugen, Spoon, Autobacs, etc. When I go again in October, i'll be sure to check them out.

Odaiba - which reminds me, they have this giant public bath house there, with many different baths - simulated hot springs, Saunas, Salt bath, Electric bath (low voltage current pulsed through water!)

Sorry, no Co-ed.
