as for being into cycling , my mountain bike has been sitting in the garage for 3 yrs at least collecting dust .
I have a mountain bike I bought in 97 that still has the little rubber excesses on the tires. I give it a dust off every few months (Read: Get on it, pump the tires, ride around the block, put back on rack).

I don't ride mostly because I got out of the habit.

I'm about to start cycling to work. It's about 4k each way and I'm not sure if my old 21speed mountain bike would do. I think it'll have to to begin with.
That bike should be fine. Pump the tires as hard as you can (50 PSI) and you won't find it too draggy on the pavement.

I used to ride 5Kms each way to Uni on a 15speed mountain bike (Paid $150 for it in '91) and never had a problem with gears/speed. Other than my legs not coping with the trip for the first week or so. By the end of it I was doing the trip in about 12 minutes to Uni and 10 minutes from Uni (there was a 100 metre 45 degree climb on the way there, pain in the morning, pure joy in the afternoon)

I'm actually planning on riding to the gym training for an hour and then riding to work which would probably make it 2.5k+gym+2.5k only problem is that the gym doesn't open till 6am and I train for about 1hr then I need to shower and ride 2.5k and still be at work closish to 7am.

I don't suppose fitness first would give me a key
Could you shower at work?

Its 10 kms each way for me to work, going to do that at least twice per day.

Its an expensive hobby, just got the Shimano shoes, and Mex helmet, knicks the works.

Got to see how much slower pedal power is compared to vtec power at 5:00am in the morning.

You won't notice the speed difference when your heart rate is up. Your body is pumping adrenaline and with no windscreen even 12KPH feels like you are hauling ass. Not to mention the feeling of living on the edge doing 60+KPH downhill trying to avoid potholes :-)

I'm in construction and working on site. I could use the crib room showers but will probably get dirtier in the process. I'll probably just get the cleaners to go through it this week and it'll be fine with thongs

Nah beaves havent lost it.. just want to get back into fitness, had the last 2 years solely concentrating on bodybuilding.

Plus I drive my s2000 way too much for silly kilometers. Its more appreciated if its driven a little less.
