Merry Christmas from the RTA
Just had a fixed speed camera penalty notice come through from an offence on the 20 Nov on the Pacific Highway at Lindfield, didn't even know I had but apparently I was doing 53 in a 40 so it was probably a school zone and I hadn't noticed the time or any kids around.
Has anyone here received a points offence on a foreign license and then got an Australian license? I have heard conflicting stories about prior points being applied to the new license and I am about to convert my UK license for an Aussie one.

well.
Put this way....getting pulled over in WA, the officer has indicated if I was to be handed a penalty notice, my Vic license would not acrue the points. Fittingly they suggest I get my WA license.
I've failed to so.....

It could certainly be different for international stuff though.

Don't know how long ago this was, but I don't think it's right any more. Since we got uniform road rules the states have all liaised with each other over points. ie- if you get booked in State X but hold a licence for State Y, you still lose the points.

I can confirm a WA officer indicated the points would not make it. It was a double demerit day also. He may have just been a prick

Well, just got confirmation from a work colleague who just changed his Jersey (UK) license to Australian, they did apply demerits issued in the last 3 years.

Well, got my NSW driving license on Saturday, very easy process. So another step closer to becoming an Aussie.
Regarding demerits, yes any demerits issued while driving on an overseas license are recorded against your RTA record - if you have one. So they are applied to the new license. The shocker for us was that all prior demerits are applied and expire 3 years from when this new license was issued not from the offense!!
So new license and I have 7 demerit points taken off already. Ho hum.
