Default Optus plans... misleading advertisement

Hmmm... I just tried to change to the $19 Cap that shows as available on the Optus.com.au website over the phone and was told that that plan is only available to VIC residents.

Now if this isn't a case of false advertising I don't know what is,....

There is no "*" or anything on the website that states this plan is not available in other states.

What's the deal?

jeez i've never known there to be state specific plans. I'd ring up optus again and enquire - often the people you speak to on the phone may not be giving you the correct information. Call up again and speak to someone else.

from a legal perspective; I believe that the advertisement is an 'invitation to treat'. The fact that their advertisement does not stipulate 'VIC residents only' may mean that you are entitled to the offer regardless.

Fisty - any info on this?

Even the full T&C's at the bottom do not mention that this is state specific other than the 3G services only being available in some areas. Looks like you got the work experience student on the phone!!

Wilch - I'd hit up fair trading on that for "false advertising". They'll do an investigation ... won't get you anything but will fix the problem.

I called them up again today.

Spoke to someone else, and they put me on the plan straight away. *sigh*

i know you can unlock a "3" handset to use any of the 3 major carriers, namely Telstra Optus and Vodafone, but never heard of you being able to unlock a sim.. i believe its locked at network level, but call 3 to confirm

Doesn't it just work? I know the Telstra 3G card will work in a non-3G handset BUT you have to watch the frequency used, some handsets don't support the GSM frequency used by the carrier.
