Default OT: Internet radio

Just wasting some time tonight I remembered I hadn't listened to internet radio in a long time. Nice to see the quality of the sound has improved :-)

The dropouts are less frequent but then again that has always depended on your internet connection and on the streaming server/distance.

Anyway, listening to some colombian chick read my horoscope in Spanish was a nice change... brought back memories of cramming for the HSC (ICFES in Colombia) exams...

What is your experience/opinion of internet radio?
Too much hassle, rather stick with mp3s??

BTW somehow listening to the "all english" colombian radio station over the net seems a bit pointless ... :-) :-)

I use to listen to Pandora http://www.pandora.com before all this copyright crap happened.

Australian's never had an "official" right to use the site. But the only "checking" that was done during sign in was that you had a valid U.S. post code. Easiest one to use ofcourse was 90201

That site was brilliant. Basically you chose your genre, then it would select from a big list a random set of songs, you could then say whether you liked, or hated the song, and skip to the next.... From this it would profile the types of songs that you liked, and would select the next songs from it's massive database based on your automatically created profile.

Brilliant idea.

Opened my ears to a bunch of bands I had never heard of, and actually influenced me into buying many of these CD's I had never heard of.

But now, it's no more. Only accessible from the U.S. All outside IP's are blocked from hearing the content.

use this site called imeem

www.imeem.com

you can make your own log in example www.s2ki.imeem.com

*make your own playlist

*how do you get music you ask?

easy, just go to the search bar type in name , artist or both and its results will come up. just play the song to make sure you know it and click "add to playlist" and its copied to yours

pretty good i reckon and it costs nothing and is easy as

I use Internode as my ISP and one of the benefits they give is a good selection of internet radio (http://www.internode.on.net/radio/) that does not count against your download quota.

Plus iTunes is more than happy to play them too. So quite often I have one of the following on at home:

BeatFM
Virgin Radio
Best of the 80's

Quality is generally very good, do get some dropouts but as you say a lot better than it used to be.
