Anyone actually listen to the radio anymore?
the only reason i listen to the radio (terrestrial radio) at all was for the morning show here on our rock station. i listen on the ride to work and over the internet at work. now they were fired on Friday for something that happened back in March. they were fired for a song sang by a guest...hilarious btw...but it was considered racist so they canned them two months later.
anyway, now i'm listening and it's nothing but shitty music and commercials. how do people listen to this crap?! i definitely am going to buy an iPod so i can listen to that all day. is satellite really worth it? or is it just 99% shit also? i really don't want another monthly payment either...for radio nontheless.

I haven't ever been able to listen to radio. Between commercials and inane DJs I just can't take it.
They have Sirius at my gym and I find it almost as annoying as regular radio, mostly because it's supposed to be 'ad free' but they have endless product placement blurbs.
The DJs are always yakking on with crap like "Did you see Americal Idol last night?", "Yesterday my UPS man dropped off...", and so on. I would much prefer an iPod to that crap.
They also annoy me because they insist on pronouncing Sirius as 'serious'. But that's just me.

You can try Sirius online for three days. I highly recommend trying before you buy. I have Sirius and I think the music is better than terrestrial because there are no full length commercials and the musical choices are much wider. Don't expect miracles, though.
Also, consider that they want a subscription for every radio (one for home, one for the car, one for the office). Also, consider that you have to have a clear sky view to get good reception.
I don't think I would do it again just for the music, though it's not bad.

i love xm

i haven't heard one commerical, just some random talking between sets, on the music stations...but on all of the non-music stations you definitely get commercials. opie and anthony in the morning is hilarious especially after 9am EST when they go to uncensored

I like the option of satellite radio for the sheer variety of options. At some point I will be living in the US and like the idea that I'll still be able to listen to CBC (basically the Canuck version of NPR) while in the US.
On the other hand, satellite radio was promoted partially on the basis of being commercial free, but as others have said, that's not exactly the case. There have been times when reception has been a problem (ex. cutting out after going under a bridge), but overall, it's okay.
