Default US Shipping costs

Hi all,

I ordered something from the US and it is around $300. Is there any taxes involved in something such little value? The retailer won't agree to mark the goods as a gift and won't not attatch an invoice on it.

Thanks.

I think it depends on the item, I know that electronic goods under $1000 do not attract any import duty. Not sure if this is a general rule.

Thanks Frisky, it's an Electrical polisher.

Just for reference sakes, for any car parts that are declared as new what is the threshold before they get taxed anything?

Cheers.

Threshold is AUD$1000, anything below that is DUTY/GST free.

Just ordered 2 glass backed tops.. which totalled over 1k

Items are now held in customs, they are organising paperwork to hit me with

5% Duty
10% GST...

Told me if I had shipped them in separate consignments I wouldn't of needed to pay anything!!!
