Default Formula - R tyres for S2000

Anyone thinking of using "R" spec tyres on their cars should check out the Dunlop motorsport web-site ( www.stuckey.com.au ), there is very good data with pictures of these tyres there. One in particular looks well suited to road use - the tread pattern is based on the Formula W-1 road tyre of 4 - 5 years ago. I called Stuckeys and was told that they are about $1130 per set for an S2000.
There are 3 other "R" spec road tyres shown also.

$1130 for what? If it's D01Js that's very cheap. The website seems to suggest they only have D01J and RSV98 in the correct sizes.

From your description of the tread I imagined you were talking about the"SP SUPER SPORT RACE" which looks to me like recent Dunlop road tyres. I don't know anything about the RSV98. Did they say it's as serious as the D01J? The D01J is regarded as the best of the current crop of R compound tyres. Presumeably you told them that you want them for track days?

mbelkin: I have been looking at those, too.
The RSVs look like they would be a lot quieter than the D01JS...noise was my main complaint with them.

Other minor factors are:
1) They never get up to operating temperature on the street, so they are a bit hard and wont perform as well as an S02.
2) Ride is bumpy as the sizewalls are rock solid.
3) You get a lot of stone chips from debris that they throw up.
