I read in Speed magazine that the cost of custom number plates is to increase. The full custom plates will increase to $400 per year and the XXX-NNX plates which used to attract a one-off fee will now cost $100 per year. I wonder if they will try to apply that retrospectively?

I think that they are going to give a fee for the XXX-NNX only if you request a specific combination like WNT-53X I just cant think of where I read that. It sure is going to be an awkward rule to implement given that there are so many already on the market.

BTW slightly ot but does anyone else read the number plates section of the Trading post for a laugh? I mean really what are these people thinking?

current holders are exempt, only those purchased after nov 03 do they have to pay the yrly fees. just revenue raising by the rta, ooooops, road safety i mean

good ol queensland. where as long as the car runs and u pay the rego fees they'll let any old deathtrap on the roads.
i guess paying the $2k one off for a custom plate is worth it then
