i got a used one from Honbits when I put a piston through mine.

Before you do make sure its actually the starter that is playing up. The starter relay in the under dash fusebox is known to play up. Try swapping it with one of the other ones in the fusebox. From memory the fuel pump and demister are the same.

Hey chris I had Nrma out last night to check it out before I get it fixed and he got me to turn it over a few times but there is nothing ( no ticking sound ) at all just completely dead which made me think it was a relay or something but then he gave the starter motor a little tap with a long screw driver and it kicked over straight away and told me I needed a new starter motor

I've had the problem for a long time now but it was only happening now and then. How much did u pay for yours chris. I've found one a couple of weeks ago for $250 which I'm guessing isn't to bad. By the way who installed yours and do you remember how much u paid for installation

If hitting the starter fixes it then its most likely the starter.

You may find a clean up of the solonoid and some lubrication of the mechanism will be enough. You can buy new solonoids from Honda for a reasonable price. Most auto electricians can do the refurb. Its not a hard thing to pull apart yourself.

I think I paid $200 plus GST. I fitted it myself but my F20C powerplant is in a race car with easy access. Warn whoever is pulling it out that its really easy to break the knock sensor when undoing the top starter bolt.

How much is a knock sensor cause I just got a call saying they had a tough time getting out the startermotor because of some bolt. Anyhow it's costing $300 for a new aftermarket starter motor and $400 for labour. Sound about right ?

Make sure you keep the original one as I'm sure you could get it rebuilt as a spare ( with wait time required to order in the Honda parts)

Labour sounds a little high. They are hard to get to but not impossible.
