Default 2011 FORMULA 1 SANTANDER BRITISH GRAND PRIX

It is that time of year again and the F1 caravan makes its way to Silverstone for the mid-point of the season. While Vettel appears to have run away with the championship there may be a surprise in store. Starting from this weekend the FIA has imposed a ban on the blown diffuser concept and Adrian Newey thinks that this ban will have a significant impact as the car was designed around the exhaust. It remains to be seen whether or not this will have a detrimental impact on RedBull. Another thing that comes to mind is what if this ban has an even worse impact on the others that have copied the concept. Will Ferrari and McLaren gain or lose this weekend?

Pirelli will be bringing its hard and soft tyre compounds for the race and this is expected to do Ferrari no favors. The tyre compounds are the same as Spain.

As of now the weather forecast seems to be positive. There is 60% chance of rain on Friday with Saturday and Sunday being partly cloudy.

Finding it hard to pick my choice for race winner. My gut tells me that RedBull will continue their streak, yet a part of me thinks that Alonso and Hamilton could also equally do well. As much as I'd want Button to win, it'd probably be safe to peg him for a points position. The more I think about it, Button is the most consistent of the entire field with the exception of Sebastien Vettel, and it is this consistency that has placed him second in the rankings.

EDIT: US TV Broadcast Info
FOX will air live Canadian Grand Prix and same day tape delayed coverage of the European, British and German Grands Prix at 1pm Noon ET, with each race being re-aired the following Tuesday at 12Noon ET on SPEED.

Let's hope this race isn't a snooze-fest like the last one.

Just to be clear, its a ban on off throttle "hot blown" diffusers. Teams can still blow their diffusers on throttle.

^ If they cannot use the Off throttle blown diffusers, they will not use blown at all. It would change the grip bias too much between on and off throttle. You don't want to be mid corner on a double apex, lift throttle, and lose a few hundred pounds of rear downforce...

I thought McLaren used the on-throttle blown diffusor?

Per the FIA, there will be a single DRS Zone at Silverstone

hmm...new pits might be an advantage

With the new Silverstone pits being used this year, Whiting has also said that he will look carefully at the pit lane entry - because its layout means it could be quicker to cross the start/finish line coming into the pits than keeping out on the track.

"The new pits are the biggest difference, and the entry and exit bring new challenges," explained Whiting. "The entry is shorter than staying on the circuit, so we will have to ensure that drivers don't use these changes to the pits to their advantage."
