i have mixed thoughts on this topic as to cost and efficiency.

Didn't BMW make a turbo 4 cylinder engine that made over 1000 hp back during the '80's?

The new engines will not do more than 10,000 revs per minute - current F1 engines spin at 18,000rpm.
so they will be limiting revs and fuel supply, I wonder if they will be limiting the pop off valve as well.

funny thing is they are arguing for efficiency, but at race levels it's fuel = HP.
Period.
they've trimmed the frictional losses to a bare minimum in search of every last horsepower, so there is very little left to be gained there.

Only thing I'd be against is limiting the revs. F1 engines are known for that. Limit fuel, let them rev as high they want.

It'll be nice to see engine development again though. It was kind of boring just hearing about aero development the last few years with the engine freeze.

I could be wrong, but arent they limiting the revs on the current engines?

You are correct. Back in 2002 the 3.0L V10s were already pushing 19000+. They limited the V8s to 19000 and progressively to their current 18000.

Yes they have limited the revs over the past few seasons from 20,000rpm to 18,000rpm, but the article said the turbo four-bangers would be rev limited to 10,000rpm. 10,000 is seriously too low hah

Yeah, it will be sad to see them limit to 10k. I got to see them race in Bahrain for the first race. The Engines don't rev they scream. indescribable.

There are S2ks that rev higher than that.
