Default F1 penalty woes continue

So Vettel gets a penalty for getting hit? Sure, I guess it's consistant with the stupid decision last year when Massa hit Bourdais(?), but F1 has got to start deciding that it's the guy who chops another car while trying to overtake who needs to be penalized.

And Trulli got penalized for passing Hamilton under yellow, so Hamilton was actually third. Again, shades of last year, but this time the stupid decision in Spa. Can't they wait a few minutes for the podium until they resolve these challenges? For that matter, can't the stewards make the decision while the race is still running?

And I still don't think it's right that one guy gets 10 spots off the next race while the other guy gets 25 seconds off from this race.

do you think they took into account that Vettel DNF'ed?
so the 25 seconds would have no effect if they applied the penalty.

I agree. They seem to have no bones about making long, drawn out decisions that affect the outcomes of the races.

Yes, I know. I just don't think it's right. If the penalty is 25 seconds then it should be 25 seconds. I don't agree with the idea that they should penalize a driver in the next race just because the penalty would have been meaningless in the race before.

I think the point is that Vettel shouldn't have been penalized. I called it before it happened. Kubica doesn't know how to be patient, and he also seems to think all the other cars on track should be getting out of his way. I wasn't a fan last year when everybody jumped on the bandwagon, and it's not looking to be any different this year. He obviously would have passed Vettel, he had 3 laps remaining and was substantially quicker. Vettel's tires would have only gotten worse as well. I watched the replay countless times on my own, there was nothing Vettel could do. Regardless of him nursing his tires, it was still for position. He wasn't lap traffic. It's his job to try and continue to push. His right tires were already over the curb, and Kubica continued to shut the door on him. From the in-car shot, you could see Vettel had full right lock on the car trying to get out Kubica's way. That was absolutely NOT Vettel's fault. I'm glad he's at least taking it like a man and rolling with it, even accepting blame.

Kubica is Sato in a good car. His driving style is beyond aggressive, it's dangerous. He has no respect for other cars on the track, and drives with a sense of entitlement. Look at the great passers like Alonso and Hamilton (I hate admitting talent in Hamilton). Every pass they make looks smooth and controlled. Every pass Kubica makes looks manic, like an accident waiting to happen... and often, it does.

yup

kubica didn't give Vettel enough space. Dumbass for thinking Vettel was not going to maintain his space on the inside. I believe Lewis made 2 passes on the outside at that same turn and didn't crash out.

Incredible the teams didn't tell them they were missing the front wing! understeers a bitch hu?

I hate when people spin or run off under safety car, and then think they can just drive back and get their place. Trulli

Hamilton P3! just more incredible driving; bit lucky with others bad driving... kubica, trulli, Kimi, etc...

I would have to agree with you... Kubica made a decent pass and was trying to slow Vettels exit speed... He just underestimated vettels grip with the soft compound tires... I really think this was more of a racing incident then anything...

Yes Kubica could have given more room, but this is surely not vettels fault nor does it account for a 10 spot grid penalty next race...

By the way, Trulli and Toyota are appealing. However, at Spa last year it was ruled that this penalty is not subject to appeal. I wonder if they will rule the same way this time?
