I get the impression that some just want "their guys" to win no matter how ridiculous the actual "racing" is.
I'd rather watch real racing with real race cars. Not much of that at the so-called hghest levels of motorsports these days...

I don't see a problem with the amount of passing in F1. Other than Nascar F1 doesn't seem to have any less passing than any other series except where there are more than one class on the track at one time.
The last 2 seasons have gone right down to the wire and there's only been a point separating #1 from #2. It's exciting.
