13 teams means 26-car fields, wow, 2010 just might offer up some real interesting on track activities.

I am still skeptical about the new teams - I don't think all of them are going to come up with the $$$ needed - we'll see...

most if not all the passing will be for non-point positions but still great racing.
it'll be good to see a full field on track.

One of the things that has blown me away this season is the TINY amount of difference in lap times. We watch qialifying and see people unable to get into the final session and sort of think they are slower, and they are, but not by much, sometimes the entire group of cars can be covered within a 2-second blanket.

I'm recalling the days of the 107% rule, all cars had to be within 107% of the qualifying car to make the field. I wonder if the newer teams will bring about something lik ethis again as I don't see the newbies being able to get under that 2-second blanket.

in the words of daniel tosh:

I dunno...if Danica can be convinced to run in F1, I think it'd be cool....

....to see her draped over the nose of the USF1 car in a swimsuit...

Seriously though, she brings quite a bit of sex appeal and a lot of American fans, even if she runs at the back (and frankly, USF1 will likely be at the back for a while). And to have another woman in F1 would be great news too. Mind you, there is quite a bit of how you say....machismo amongst certain European male audiences. I'm sure she'd get quite a bit of jeering and such.

I could see her not running F1 for that reason, combined with probably the bigger factor of a non-competitive car. Too bad. But we'll probably still see her in swimsuits draped over race cars once a year in Sports Illustrated...can't go wrong with that.

I would rather have Marco Andretti.
If his manager could align his image with his awesome grandfather and not his lame dad it would be fantastic.
I'll admit more fans may be pulled in by the Danica sex thing, I still think an Andretti in F1 would also bring in a lot of Americans.

Does getting more US fans into F1 matter if the decision continues to be that there will not be a North American race?

Doug - there were some comments during last weeks race about the very topic. Qualifying times are very close indeed, however, race laps were seperated by seconds top to bottom. If in reality, the lap times were within a second, you'd almost never see a lapped car, yet we see 1/2 the field or more each race being lapped.

Second point first, good point, maybe the 107% rule will not be needed, but with the new teams coming on, I wonder if we won't see at least one dud of a car.

First point second, Honestly, I have to believe, not only will we get US and Canada back because FOTA is going to have a more active say, I suspect we might even get 2 in the US. The teams have said over and over again, they WANT to be here. Regardless what some people say around here, being in the US would be good for Ferrari, Mercedes, Renault/Nissan, BMW, Toyota because they sell a crap load of product over here.
