Default High-Performance Driving Course for Newbs?

Is there such a thing as a high performance driver training "camp" of sorts, where you have a teacher who instructs you how to drive in high powered, performance conditions? A class that lasts 3-7 days. I've heard of such a thing, but I haven't got the first clue where to find them.

Absolutely, you can look at several different alternatives. First, your local Autocross probably has some novice school that they host once or twice a year. Otherwise, if you’re interested in jumping into track driving, look into a Hi-performance driver education course or HPDE. Most tracks offer some sort of HPDE program to introduce drivers to the sport which offer a full day of classroom and/or in car instruction. Look at Bonderant or Skip Barber racing school for longer more focused education using their cars.
You might post in the racing and competition section for local track information.

Ron Fellows Corvette School at Spring Mountain motorsport ranch.

There's also an Audi R8 school at Infineon raceway.

And a GT3 school in Atlanta through Porsche.

They average $4-7k for the schools.

If you've never done any motorsport, you're better off learning on lower hp cars though.

Depending on where you are located, you could also look at The Mid-Ohio School. They may prove more cost effective than the others and the instructors include Brian Till from Speed TV, Jim Bishop (SCCA champ and racing coach), Tommy Byrne (Formula Ford, F1 and Indy Lights driver and driver coach and author of Crashed and Byrned), Adam Andretti and others with a fair bit of experience.

Skip Barber (as someone suggest above) too is another great avenue if you are serious about High Performance driving. They offer courses at Lime Rock Park, Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca.

Alternatively you could just join a car club (like BMW CCA) or motorsport association like NASA or SCCA. If you are tracking your S2000 make sure that your car meets the safety requirements of the group or club you plan to run with. Some groups wont allow convertibles unless there is a roll bar installed.
