Honda says no to NASCAR

Honda has no plans to move into NASCAR stock car racing, according to Robert Clarke, the president of the Honda Performance Development, the US company which runs all the company's racing activities in the United States. Rival Toyota recently abandoned open-wheeler racing to move into the stock car series but Honda has no plans to follow.

Clarke says that while he will not say it will never happen, there are no plans at the moment and Honda is in tending to continue its relationship with the Indy Racing League and the Indianapolis 500.

"We believe strongly in open-wheel racing as a form of racing that Honda has historically competed in, and particularly in Formula 1 and CART and now the IRL. We very much enjoy that style of racing at the premiere level, and we are showing our commitment to the sport and to the IRL in particular, by making our commitment through 2009. Honda's racing historically has been focused on technology. Having not been directly involved with NASCAR, I think it's probably unfair for us to say that their technology is dumbed-down or at a lower level, but it's clearly a different kind of technology."

I'd love to see Honda do a factory Le Mans car, though.

I LOVE IT!

And I would also like to say, please let Toyota continue going down the NASCAR track, because maybe they will learn this is where they should be. Toyota has THE BIGGEST budget in F1, yes, bigger than Ferrari, and they are the most pathetic example of a team.

Way to go Honda, way to go.

Huge personnel changes are needed for the toyota to improve. Not even a big name driver will be able to help fix the "management" mess Toyota are in. I hear further rumblings, that Toyota may pull out of F1 after 2007 should things not improve and focus on Nascar. So you may get your wish Dougie

I recall reading in Autosport and Racer that Honda plan on entering the ALMS in 2008. I'm glad Honda's staying out of NASCAR.

It would be pretty shameful if Toyota withdrew from F1. Kind of weird if they do leave since they wouldn't be able to race at their own Fuji circuit when the Japanese GP moves from Suzuka to Fuji in 2007.

Toyota pulling out, simply to become an engine supplier solely, no longer a full fledged F1 team..

which makes things interesting, as to if and when they sell ? and to whom ?
