Wednesday 8 April at 17:59 : Apr.8 (GMM) Former Canadian grand prix promoter Normand Legault believes formula one teams should abandon the FIA and Bernie Ecclestone
The 53-year-old told the French language La Presse newspaper that FOTA, the teams' new unified alliance, is their ticket to shedding the sport's current outdated structure
Legault revealed that, shortly before the Formula One Teams Association was enacted, he made a presentation to the teams in Montreal
"I said to them 'why don't you reorganise yourselves like a North American sports league? When the (Montreal) Canadiens play the Boston Bruins, they don't ask the International Hockey Federation to referee the match
"In the world of North American pro sports, each league has a board of governors, a commissioner and vice presidents who manage the business. The owners of the sport manage themselves
"The National Hockey League doesn't have to ask anyone if it wants to increase the size of the net by six inches!" he exclaimed
Legault said the winds of change are already blowing, and a recent example of this is the recent flexing of muscles between the teams, the FIA and commercial rights holder Ecclestone over the scoring system
He also says F1 could live without Ecclestone, and the time is ripe for this to happen, given the absence of a Concorde agreement
"The teams could leave tomorrow morning. They could call it the Grand Prix World Championship. If you have Ferrari, BMW, Williams, if you have Lewis Hamilton, that seems pretty much like the real thing."nnLegault said the problem with Ecclestone and FOM is the 50-50 revenue split
"To go back to the model of the NHL, if the league administrative costs are $50 million, and overall revenues are $1.8 billion, then that amounts to 3 per cent
"In F1, the guy who manages the business costs you 50 per cent of your revenues," said Legault

No race in North America is very high on my list of reasons to hate Bernie
Also, with a single engine supplier, why don't I just follow the IRL.

Indy Cars are boring. NASCAR is boring.
All the exciting racing is non-spec.
Look at ALMS...exciting! Koni Series...exciting! etc etc.
another b and m movment.
if a private team can lower its budget with the use of cosworth engines let them. let the other teams make their ouw choices. why are these two wheeling and dealing f1 into the ground?

The possible return to the F1 scene of the British-based engine specialist Cosworth was reportedly facilitated by a deal brokered between Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone.
It has emerged in recent days that USF1/USGPE - the prospective American team entry for 2010 - is seriously considering using the homologated Cosworth V8 engine next year.
At the end of last year, Cosworth won an FIA tender to supply a low-cost engine and transmission package in 2010.
To guarantee Cosworth's ability to finance the project, it was necessary for FIA President Mosley to garner the support of F1 Chief Executive Ecclestone.
To do this, it is reported by Germany's Auto Motor und Sport that Mosley - keen for the Cosworth proposal to work in order to reduce F1's reliance on car manufacturers - decided to fully back Ecclestone's proposal for the 'winner takes all'-style scoring system.
In return for the FIA's support, Ecclestone promised to guarantee the viability of the Cosworth deal.

Well the medal thing might have just worked in Button's favor this year simply because of the 1/2 points in Malaysia. He obviously was hit the hardest by losing 5 points, just imagine it comes down to the final race like the past 2 seasons and he loses by a point, or by 4 points, but has equal amount or greater wins than the guy he loses to. It would SUCK and would be very crushing for Button.
I don't agree with the medals in any way, but those 1/2 points are even worse, for both Button and the team. Say RB wins next race and Button just happens to finish down in 5th like RB in Malaysia, RB would be up by a point on Button after 3 races with just 1 victory and worse race placings during the 3 races. They should of at least had the cars follow the safety car for an additional 9 laps to get to 75% completion.
I sure hope it doesn't come down to this at the end of the season. Because I'll definitely be hating Bernie much more than I do now.
