I believe the manufactures bid for the right to be the official Indy 500 pace car. Past pace cars have been everything from a Nash to a DeSoto to a Corvette

As others have mentioned, it has to be the $$$$.

In 2001, Oldsmobile must have been really proud of their Bravada.

Yup, the track makes deals that are best for them, sort of like Watkins Glen is all about Toyota stuff, Tundra work vehicles and Camry pace cars...

Honda has a few tracks but it does vary
