Default McLaren Honda split is imminent

it really pains me that the split between McLaren and Honda is coming. I'd have loved for McLaren to stick with Honda as I'm sure they'll fix their issues at some point, but the reality is that McLaren is probably desperate especially given the woeful reliability of the Honda engine

All indications are that STR will now run Honda with a potential switch to RedBull once the engine issues have been ironed out. McLaren will partner with Renault and get parity with Renault F1 and the Red Bull teams. I wish them well.

F1 Racing News - McLaren and Honda split agreed

At this point I'm feeling more inclined to follow IndyCar over F1 as I have no interest in rooting for Kvyat or whoever STR lines up once Sainz Jr. leaves the team.

Figured id start a thread so we can discuss the split.

You'd rather watch Indy Car with its two engine suppliers & standard chassis over F1 with its 10 bespoke chassis & four engine suppliers because you're saddened you can no longer follow motorsports' biggest whiner & bringer of bad luck in a slow car?

Yep! Bawling my heart out and IndyCar does have good races. No need to drag it through the mud.

Whos the whiner? Honda or are you referring to Alonso?

Its just a feeling, but I'm not sure much good will come with a Renault alliance. I'd have stuck with Honda, but then I'm a fanboi, not Zak Brown.

Toro Rosso will beat McLaren in 2018.

I'm excited. Long Live Kvyat.

While I like Alonso as a driver, his constant whining was very irritating. If he didn't always act like a primadonna I think he would have had more wins and perhaps even another championship (or at least be in contention for one), after all he's the one the orchestrated his previous departure from Mclaren and Ferrari. But yeah, I'm a fanboi as well, go STR Honda! I'd love to be cheering for RB Honda in the near future too!

As I think about it, Ricciardo and Verstappen wearing Honda badges down the line would be a hot ticket (provided they're still around and at RedBull)

I don't blame Mclaren, or Alonso for his whining. Alonso is too good of a driver to be stuck with this problem, and he has been for the past few seasons. Makes perfect sense that Mclaren would switch after years of Honda failing to deliver, and to top it off they really wanna keep Alonso.

So RedBull is splitting with Renault at the end of 2018 at which point it'll likely be an all Honda team(s)

Red Bull to split with Renault at end of 2018 season - BBC Sport

Short-sighted of McLaren to prefer driver over engine supplier IMHO
