Default Tires

Time for something else to talk about...so what do people think of the 2 compound tire rule?

My thoughts - yet another crap rule from the FIA. Forcing teams to use a second compound when they know it will hurt their performance goes against what racing means - you should be able to use any compound that is within the rules for the entire race.

If Bridgestone brought 2 compounds, pick the one that best suits your car and race with it for the entire race!

I have disliked this rule since it was introduced because it brings NOTHING to the table...

I agree with you and dislike the rule myself.

Some would argue it adds another element of "entertainment" for the viewers, and another variable in the strategy.

i agree matrix, if you think about it, in melbourne vettle was on the option tyre and kubica was on the other one or it might have been the other way around, either way if there wasn't a rule you have to use two different compounds each race i think the accident wouldn't have happend

We had this discussion ad nauseum after Australia. Why must we beat a

Drivers were quoted as saying they liked it. That's all that matters really. We are nobodies....F1 drivers are somebodies.

I agree - all it does is add a factor of rolling the dice since as we saw in Monaco, RB killed his rear tires prematurely. Then when Ferrari went onto the supersoft, they basically had to protect them, so they couldn't push - which made the last 25 laps kind of pointless...

I guess you could say that if BGP saved the supersofts for last and Ferrari were on the soft, it may have been more exciting as Ferrari would have been catching them at the end...but a true race fan would have realized it was only because of the tire compound.

I hope they scrap this rule soon...

I like it. It adds an extra dimension, strategy. If your team isn't smart enough to figure out when to use them, tough.

It's a stupid, contrived, hokey rule.

It would be better to FIX THE FORMULA such that the cars can actually RACE and PASS each other even when all are on the "right" (optimal) tires.

Reeks of gimmickry, not real racing.

Pick a tire and go with it IMO. Have choices for the teams, but they do not have to use all of them, just the ones they want.

Racing is about finishing before the other guy. I think they should get rid of it. I agree with Mike though, just because a few of us think it, doesn't make a difference since you know there are millions more out there that don't care enough and will continue watching it regardless
